Far North Tech is a Young Enterprise business run by Luca and Samuel as part of Springbank and Taipa Area Schools' business program.
At Far North Tech, we are committed to reducing e-waste and keeping technology out of landfills. We repair computers at affordable prices, making fixing your device a smarter choice than replacing it—saving you money while helping the environment.
We also upgrade computers to improve performance and extend their lifespan, so you can keep your device running smoothly without needing an expensive replacement. Additionally, we recycle and repurpose old computers, giving them new life and reducing electronic waste. Even computers that might seem worthless can still serve a purpose—this very website is hosted on an old desktop from 2009!
Beyond repairs, we also provide tech support services to help you with all things tech-related.
The New Zealand Young Enterprise Scheme (YES) is a nationwide program that gives high school students (like us!) the opportunity to develop and run their own businesses. Through the scheme, students form teams, create a product or service, and take it to market while learning essential business skills such as financial management, marketing, and teamwork. YES provides mentorship, workshops, and competitions to support students and prepare them for future careers in business and innovation.
Far North Tech is a 'virtual business' registered with Young Enterprise NZ. This means we aren’t recognized as an official government-registered business and don’t have to pay taxes. However, we follow all YES rules and pay a 25% tax on our profits to YES at the end of the year.
We do not repair Apple devices because they are notoriously difficult to fix due to Apple's proprietary designs and software restrictions. Many components are glued or soldered, making repairs complex and time-consuming. Additionally, official Apple parts are extremely expensive and often unavailable to independent repairers, making the cost of fixing an Apple device nearly as high as replacing it. For these reasons, we focus on repairing other brands that offer more affordable and practical repair solutions.
We do not repair mobile devices because they are challenging to fix due to their compact and delicate design. Many components, such as screens and batteries, are glued or soldered, making repairs difficult, time-consuming, and often unsuccessful. Additionally, high-quality replacement parts are expensive and hard to find, while cheaper alternatives can be unreliable. Given these challenges, repairing mobile devices is often not cost-effective, so we focus on servicing computers instead.
